Description
We are achieving the autonomous, stabilised flight of a 2m-long airship, which can be used to test various sensor technology or for advertising purposes, among other things. The airship should be able to maintain its position and orientation in light winds without active control and using only on-board sensors. Our team is initially using a normal flight controller and four brushless motors for this purpose. The required control commands will be calculated with the help of GPS, compass, acceleration and gyroscope data.
Project plan
Step 1: Development and construction of a 2m length foil hull
Step 2: Deciding on a drive concept, taking into account many factors such as weight, complexity and manoeuvrability.
Step 3: The CAD design of the motor nacelles, the battery and flight controller mount.
Step 4: Production of the components. Most of the components are created using 3D printing.
Step 5: Programming the flight controller.
Current progress
- The new hull has been finalized
- New propulsion concept: Four swivelling motor nacelles will be positioned around the hull.
- The latest version of the airship is currently being created as a CAD model
